I have been following a blog called Calahan Fine Art. You can click to see her blog on the right. From looking at her paintings we felt compelled to visit Wallowa County. It is about a five hour drive from our house. On friday morning we set out for a weekend of painting and paddle boarding. Above is one of my plein air studies. Below you see me along the Wallowa River perched on a rock. Then below that you will see Buckley. He found the whole weekends exhausting. At eleven years of age he finds climbing over these rocks to get to the river a bit more than and old dog can handle. He is a great companion and we did everything we could to make it easier. Even piling up leaves on the rocks so he could rest.

What a beautiful spot to sit and paint! Your study is really nice, Donna - those rocks are awesome! I'm glad Buckley was able to rest on a comfy nest of leaves. He must have been very happy to be there with you.
HI Donna T. Thank you! It was an amazing place. Winter would be a different story. These rocks are here because of the huge volumes of water coming down from snow melt. Summer is nice though. Hope this finds you getting ready to paint!
Buckley is glad to be home to his routine and comforts.

Neat location, Donna!! We have been trying those type's of places, also. Your painting is so vibrant--I suspect is the wonderful golds and purples used in the water foam. Really a beautiful painting.
Thank you Ida. It was a very interesting place. I am trying another painting of the same scene in the Studio. I have high hopes as always. This was such rough country. All these rocks makes one think about what it must be like during snow melt in the spring. It must be exciting. Wallowa County was a very interesting place with all the hay fields and cattle. It seems like everyone has horses and most people take pack trips into the high country. I want to go back again next year.
