Dramatic Lighting at Catherine Creek

This is painted from a photograph taken at Catherine Creek early on a summer morning. I have attempted painting here on several occasions and each time my efforts have been foiled by ants. There are a very large number of ants that live here and stopping even for a moment can cause an ant swarm. Then I forget all about the ants and tried again and was again swarmed by ants. These are those big red ones. Part of the outdoor experience that hikers and bikers, or people moving through nature get to miss and only painters who stop for long periods of time get to experience!

Ants?!! I thought gnats were bad but can't imagine how disturbing ants must be. Beautiful pine tree, Donna!

Thank you Donna! Poor us, having to go out and battle bugs. The irritations are well worth it though. In this case the bugs won and I had to make do with only a photo.
