Goldendale in August lives up to its name. The wheat is golden and the surrounding hills dry and turn to gold. The light that is reflected and bounced around is saturated with warm colors. As August wears on these colors fade and change. The below quote is from a book by Mary O'Hara written about the Wyoming landscape. I have always felt it also describes South Central Washington and Oregon. Our golden grasses will turn to taupe and fade to fawn. I must pay attention
"an empty wilderness of low hills, dunes, plains; green in spring and early summer, fading to taupe and fawn as the season wears on. Huge pines standing solitary and twisted by the winds, like sardonic old men who know a thing or two."

Donna-I have been following your journey en plein air-thank you so much for sharing-I would like to try doing some work outside-particularly to do studies to go with photos i have taken-what size do you typically work in outdoors? Do you finish the work in that sitting-about how long do you spend on these? Again-I look forward to seeing your work every time I check your blog-
Thank you Gina. The size for working outside or plein air, is 9" x 12". My intent is to finish, but that depends on the weather and my concentration. Sometimes I just get an underpainting and other times I finish. This summer I go out early and finish in about two hours and am home before it gets hot. I always take photo's as well. Hope this helps and check back, I would love to know how it is going.
