Creative Habit

I am reading a book called "The Creative Habit" by Twyla Tharp. In this book there is an exercise section where she recommends going back through old photo’s looking for things in your past that are similar to your life today, to the person you’ve become. Something that is vaguely similar.

She says that a photo reminds her of how every young person grows up with an overwhelming sense of possibility, and how life, in some ways, is just a series of incidents in which that possibility is either enlarged or smacked out of you. How you adapt is your choice. In that sense, this photo is Darwinian: it’s the origin of species.

Below is a photo of me when I was about five or six, and for me this is similar to my creative life today. I love the lighting, the windows, I like the concentration, and the many things around me. It is like coming full circle.

I like your thoughts and especially your work. I found your blog via A Good Year. Keep up the wonderful work ... with a guard dog like that, it should be no problem.

Great photo, Donna..I read that book awhile back and don't even remember that about finding a photo thing. Beautiful painting...and beautiful little you!
