Oh Donna ... I am so sorry. The pictures you posted made me cry because he was such a beautiful companion and because you loved him so much. My heart breaks for you today. With love and sincere sympathy, Donna T

Oh Thank You Donna. He truly had a wonderful life and we are in such appreciation to have known and loved him. He was a trooper until the end and would try to be ready to do anything. Of course we had to keep his activities to a moderate level as he was slowing down. His walks were getting shorter and shorter as his naps became longer and longer. When we first got Buckley his breeder told me that he was a sweet boy. That was the perfect description of his personality. He charmed the mail carrier, the UPS driver, and the FedEx guy. He got treats almost every day from one or all of them. Even if we did not get a delivery, if they were going by the house they would stop for Buckley. Sweet and charming, our little Guy.

I have followed your blog for a long time- I have tried to get my dog Bodie to be Buckley when I paint plein air and he sort of just wants to dig in the dirt and look for other dogs! I was always jealous of your sweet painting companion . So sorry to hear of your loss.

Thank you rroseman. Buckley was very good most of the time. Early on he figured out I would be busy for a couple hours and it might be a good time for a nap. But if another dog came along all did not go as planned and I often had a situation to mediate between the now awake, alert, and barking Cavalier King Charles. Little girls were also a big distraction, he was a little girl magnet as you can imagine. After a painting session he always got to get out of the chair and go exploring and so he did get a payoff for being patient. He also got treats if he was quiet, or just for being cute. Enjoy your doggie, even if he is all dog, they are the perfect muse.....all temperaments. I miss my little muse.

Donna, My condolences! I do know what this is like---I lost my little partner 2 years ago, after returning from the Bill Cone workshop and could not blog about it or share it hurt so badly. Now I am on the other side of that, and one day you will be too. Its both wonderful to have had him---and painful to lose him.----Personally, I have gotten another young dog for companionship and painting trips--and boy what work she is! Can't wait until she grows up some. Beautiful paintings today on your blog, thanks, and keep up the good work. I do love your big trees!

Thank you Ida. It was hard the first time that I went out painting without Buckley. I was not sure I could paint without him as he had been with me during my whole art career. But I find him here in spirit. He is a warm and loving memory no matter what I am doing. After having an elder dog it must be a big shock to have a young fun doggy. Each dog is so different. We have neighbor dogs that visit us and so we get to scratch and talk to them,....it helps.
