Donna, I really like the foreground patterns. The trees really stand up in space with those nice trucks. A very early spring painting! and very nice work.

Yes, nice foreground patterns, Donna. Nice shapes overall! I've been thinking about your epiphany from the other day. I'm glad you posted that because I have been struggling with trying to paint from photos. Looking at a 2-D image and making another 2-D image is not the same as going from 3-D to 2-D. Something is missing.

Plein air is so complicated and so important. I find getting some kind of definition down to be very difficult in words. Today I was thinking about how the land smells in the spring. An earthy smell and how wonderful to try and get that sense into a painting. A bit of brown terra cotta earth here and there. The viewer comes along and looks and gets that sense of spring. What a wonderful challenge for the painter.
