Dry Heat and Aspens

Dry Heat
Very early in the morning this is a beautiful place to paint. Painting is done early and very quickly. The sun becomes more and more powerful until it is unbearable. Heat radiates off the basalt in waves and then the light turns flat and uninteresting. But that first early light is spectacular. I leave the house before the sun comes up and finish painting before 9:00.

Aspen
I realize I am jumping around with different themes here. First heat and then on to the cool of this aspen grove. The last time I stopped here, which was a couple of weeks ago, water filled this road so it could only be viewed from a distance. I think this is an old homestead and so a road was build through this grove. Most of the groves around here are to dense to even begin to sort out. This particular place allows for entry into the grove and room to compose and find many different ideas.

This is just lovely. I really like the blue shadows cast along the ground. I'm delighted to have found your blog, Donna, and I'm looking forward to following your progress.

Thank you Ida Caroline and Donna. Glad to get the feedback on this. A lovely place and somewhat complicated to paint with all of the aspen crowded together. I have some planted in our backyard and they seem to like to grow close together. I love the happy flap of the leaves.
