The Tour de France

This is not a painting of The Tour de France. It is a painting at Maryhill Museum where we painted early this morning before the heat moved in. The reason for the title is because we are watching the Tour de France every morning and I am reading a book by Johan Bruyneel who is famous for working with Lance Armstrong. The book is about much more than winning the tour. Reading this book is about winning in life. Here is a quote from the book and from his twitter:

"I had, for the first time, hooked my heart and my head together and, in the alchemy of that combination, created something more powerful than the parts".

"Accept - then act. Whatever the present moment contains, accept it as if you had chosen it. Always work with it, not against it."

"Remember, happiness doesn't depend on who you are or what you have; it depends solely on what you think."

"Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Wishing is not enough; we must do."

This is significant in painting because the painter needs to be inspired by the location and then needs to have knowledge of how to execute the vision -- head and heart.

Thanks for sharing those quotes, Donna, they are really wonderful. I am going to read them again and then write them down. Nice painting, too!

Thank you Donna. Little bits and pieces to think about. Words to get us past the self doubts that seems to be the aritsts way. I believe that being an aritst is about as difficult as riding the Tour de France, mentally that is.
