Grasses - Work in Process Demo

This demo starts with the scene as I started my painting this morning about 7:00 am.

This is my setup and guard dog. I have started the under painting process with a light drawing using a hard pastel.

This is the under painting after using Turpenoid to melt and push the pastel around. For the grasses I brushed up and down to create texture.

Starting to add some color.

Finished with the trees and here I started working on the grasses.

The influence for the grasses and flowers was based on what was going on around me and not just the sliver of grasses in my scene.

Great demo Donna, I enjoyed reading the rest of your blog, seeing what you are seeing while you are painting and your sharing of whats happening around you at the time really brings the paintings to life.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Your grasses are the best! They float in the breeze and capture the light. huatolm

(oops...huatolm was the word verification. I could swear I typed it in somewhere. lol)

Is your underpainting grey/black? I am surprised!

Celeste, it is more of a blue violet, but looks black when wet. The turpenoid has not dried in these photo's. when it dries it is a very pretty grey/purple.

Thanks Melodie and Donna T.

I'm curious about underpainting with turpenoid. Isn't the turp a messy undertaking in the field? I guess it'd be the same if one was working with oils. This is a very nice piece!

Brenda, I carry the turp in a little jar that fits inside my French easel. I have a litte tin cup and pour a bit of turp in the cup and that is it. No mess. Thanks for looking and for the nice comment!
